Wardrobes
Next week I’m moving to a new house just a tad east from where I am now in North London. The old place has a built in wardrobe which has sufficed so far. The new place doesn’t have any thing built in, so I need to find a stand alone wardrobe - exciting!
I’ve got a small obsession for wardrobes, opening the doors of a superior wardrobe can give you that little bit of well needed happiness in the early morning.

Some time ago I spotted this wardrobe. It’s old, beautiful and has what all modern wardrobes lack - labels. Labels for the handkerchief draw, labels for the hat cabinet, labels for everything, and yes, a handkerchief draw! Who even carries a handkerchief anymore? Well if I had this wardrobe my collection would have already started and sneezing would be the highlight of my day.

Some might find this a bit on the small side though. Thats when we need to consider a something more extravagant. New York Fashion recently showed us Six New Yorkers With Closets From Heaven, one of which is Maneesh Goyal’s wood and glass walk-in, complete with a library ladder(!)
For now though, something more practical is needed. That’s where IKEA and their infinite number of wardrobe configurations way well come in to play…
I’m in. Rolling up those jeans really does add that bit of freshness for summertime (or what’s left of it here…). I’m yet to attack any of my actual trousers as cuffing is a bit more permanent. Bruce has some more obsessive thoughts over at The Moment.
Ladies, enough trainers with suits please. It’s really just, wrong. If your shoes hurt that bad throw them out!

The London Fashion map
Moving to London opened up a world of new oppurtunities for fashion shopping. Throughout the week I take note of new places to visit and every weekend I take a few hours to go an explore these new places. I’ve been using Google’s My Maps, and so far its grown pretty big. Most people will either know about or have visited at least half of the places (and hopefully more). Having a comprehensive list is though, as you can give it to anyone visiting London and guarantee they’ll have a great time shopping.
The list is constantly evolving (I’ve also started a Paris one) so if you have any special places please let me know by leaving a comment (extra kudos if you have any recommendations for Japan!)
In spite of my bitterness over the shoes that were never put into production, I couldn’t resist two awesome pieces I found today. The Martin Margiela store in Burton Place has to be one of my favorite shopping experiences. Absolutely everything is painted white - it’s almost imaginable they simply rigged the place with white paint bombs to do the job. The staff wear lab coats and are more than helpful. The fact that it’s out of the way and hidden means there are never more than several people in at any one time, making the experience all the more relaxing. Unfortunately they don’t keep the best stock, so the two pieces I brought were actually found elsewhere in town. Nevertheless, don’t pass up an opportunity to visit the store. I’d also love to know if anyone is aware of other stores in London which are just as iconic and enjoyable to visit.
Today was a sad day, I sneaked into Maison Martin Margiela on Burton Place in the afternoon to track down this awesome pair of brogues with an exuberant purple ribbon.
I was willing to travel far for these. But no, I discovered that in fact they were never produced! Apparently there was a problem with the leather and only a few were made for press shots. How cruel can the world be?
Now I wonder, will we ever find a pair of shoes quite the same…?
